Six city Polo teams from across the globe (including Buenos Aires, Cape Town, Zurich, Kissimmee, London and Dubai) will descend on the iconic Hurlingham Park from Friday 8th until Sunday 10th June to play three fiercely competitive matches a day in front of a packed-out crowd.
Alongside the thrilling city matches, for the first time ever at the event ICM Team Ireland will take on Flannels Team England for a historic International highlight match on the Friday night. The Irish team is led by cousins Sebastian Dawnay and Earl of Tyrone Richard Le Poer, and polo runs through the veins of this duo, as their grandfather – David Dawnay – won Silver at the last ever appearance of Polo at the Olympics in 1936.
Managing Director of Sportgate International, Rory Heron said:
“England and Ireland not only share some sporting rivalry – but they’re also both steeped in history, with Ireland said to be home to the oldest polo club in the world. We’re very privileged to have these two national teams at Chestertons Polo in the Park and looking forward to this thrilling match on International Friday”.
Sebastian Dawnay of Team Ireland said,
“After winning the tournament in 2016 for Team Mandarin Hong Kong, I’m very excited to return to Hurlingham Park for my first international match. It will be the first time we go head to head with Team England at Chestertons Polo in the Park and competing under City Polo Series Rules – so we know it will be a fast and furious affair”.
The International match will heat up the three-day event which is now in its 9th year. Chestertons Polo in the Park is the finest summer social on the calendar, with a spectacular line-up of restaurants, bars, family entertainment and of course; polo. The newly ratified City Polo Series Rules allows spectators to follow the polo without needing any prior knowledge of the game and enjoy the fiercely competitive sport.
