For me, when I think of lilac I immediately imagine packets of Parma Violets sweets in a huge jam jar that the old sweet shop used to sell but historically, the lilac has been associated with first love and romance. During the Victorian Age, the giving of a lilac was meant to be a reminder of an old love. In fact, widows were often seen wearing lilacs during this period. From the same family as the olive tree, these beautiful blooms have now been recognised by the fashion pack and can be seen filling every high street.
