International dressage rider Hannah Biggs has won the Advanced Medium Freestyle class at the British Dressage National Championships (Hartpury, Gloucester, 10th April) with her own Don Schufro gelding, ‘Don Caledonia’ on a score of 75.83%.

“He gave me the most incredible feeling, so soft and willing to dance with me!”

Hannah and Don Caledonia (Archie) rode to their music composed by Tom Hunt, which featured a medley of ‘Tinie Tempah’ and ‘Labyrinth’, to the delight of the crowds spectating in the indoor arena. Hannah said:

“The music was spot on and everything came off with perfect timing! I was so proud of Archie giving me his all in there!”

The win was extra special as it was the same class Hannah won in 2008 with her recently retired Grand Prix stallion Weltzin.

“I am dedicating this to my original superstar stallion. I have to admit to being a little emotional as I came out of the test. Proper happy tears!”

Hannah and Archie showed their consistency performing at championship level, after also taking 3rd place in the previous day’s Advanced Medium Open class on 70.57%, also winning a prize for the highest placed British bred horse. Hannah finished 6th in the same class on Camarilla Calimero (Cara), a ride she has very high hopes for. Following the prize giving Hannah said:

“Cara felt like a million dollars performing some truly spectacular work to finish with 70.04%. The judges were so excited about her for the future, a true international superstar in the making!”

Hannah and her team now look forward to even more success in the summer season.
