AISI Course Considerations & Course Photos

Patrick Latham and John Thelwall have developed the range of As I See It Course Considerations with course photos in time for Poplar Park this weekend.

The idea for ‘As I See It’ came from the passion that they have for supporting young and/or less experienced riders. It had become apparent to both of them, Patrick through his network of mentors and John through his years of Coaching, that there were many people competing who found it difficult to ask a more senior rider how specific fences should be tackled.

They have set out to give anyone who might need assistance the opportunity to have the advice they need to be able to make the right decisions, at the more technical fences, for their own particular horses, as well as their own level of experience. They have concentrated their efforts on the more technical fences and not included the more straight-forward ones, because they are determined not to allow themselves to be tempted into giving a ‘riding lesson’, and as such have assumed a certain level of competency.

Speaking before the event this weekend, Patrick said,

“The organisers and Course Designers deserve a huge debt of gratitude for allowing us to have a preview of the courses so that we can put together these pages. We realised from the beginning how important it is that we keep their trust by making no comment on, or voicing an opinion of, the style or build of any of the courses. We are able to demonstrate to them, by forwarding a draft copy before publication, that we are simply saying ‘this is how these particular fences are set out, so these are the options of how to tackle them’.”

Lincoln is the next to come in the series.
