An elite Futurity premium indicates that the horse has the potential and outlook to perform at international level.

Headmore Valentina (Vilancio x Rubinstein) took her elite score of 9.70 in the dressage section for her owner and breeder, Sarah Oppenheimer.  Sarah said:

“I am delighted, we thought she was a bit special. I am chuffed to bits that she has received this Futurity score as we think she is outstanding.  Valentina’s dam, Rubinsteena has previously produced two national champions and two runners up.”

Rubinsteena is the dam of Half Moon Frizzante, National Winter Open Elementary Champion in 2011 and former National 6-year-old champion, Headmore Wimoweh. Sarah added:

“Wimoweh and another daughter of Rubinsteena’s, Headmore Davina have both qualified for the 2016 National Championships.”

Valentina was born via embryo transfer as Rubinsteena was unwell last summer, she is back in foal to Belissimo M for 2017.

Sarah will retain Valentina, she continued:

“She will go on to have a ridden career. We are increasingly using embryo transfer so the mares can continue their ridden careers. We have had lots of interest in Valentina, but she will be staying with us.”

The first ever Futurity Overall Supreme Champion back in 2005 was bred by Sarah, she was Headmore Dream On, by Keystone Dimaggio. Headmore Dream On has gone on to compete at young riders and international level.

Filly foal, Catherston Temptation (Timolin x Laurentainer) scored an elite premium of 9.50 in the dressage section for Jennie Loriston-Clarke, who said:

“Temptation is a lovely filly and she showed herself well, which is half the battle! Her mother Lambada breeds a very nice type of horse. Catherston Tango, her foal from 2015 scored a higher first Futurity premium last year.”

Catherston Temptation will be brought on for the future. Jennie continued:

“They are all for sale but I am not giving them away.

“We have some lovely horses in this country, we always register ours with Sports Horse Breeding Great Britain or the British Warmblood Society as I think it is so important to promote our British bred horses, and not have horses bred in Britain registered with a foreign studbook.”

Catherston Timpany (Timolin x Tagula) scored an elite premium of 9.00 in the eventing section. Jenny Loriston-Clarke her owner and breeder said:

“She is a lovely filly and is bred to event.  It was nice to see she was more appreciated this year by the Futurity evaluator.”

Timpany received a higher first Futurity premium in 2015. She was lucky to get to the Futurity, Jenny added:

“Timpany had a poisoned foot that went quite deep a few weeks ago. It was only just better in time.”

A horse produced for the Futurity by Jennie also attained an elite premium at Catherston. This was Wayfarer (Woodlander Wavavoom x HB I Rubin-Royal), a three-year-old dressage gelding that attained an elite score of 9.05. Wayfarer is by Woodlander Wavavoom out of a mare, Rubianna. Wayfarer was bred by Matheson Stud in Shaftesbury and is owned by Valerie Jones.  Jennie said:

“Valerie is delighted with the elite premium, Wayfarer is a big moving horse that we have backed and hacked about over the summer. He will come back to us in January to be produced for the four-year-old classes and the Equine Bridge.”

A three-year-old eventing sports pony, Catherston Bobby Dazzler (Littledale Bright Star x Number One Guy) gained a higher first premium of 8.93 for Jennie, who added:

“He loves his jumping, the Futurity was only the third time he has jumped. He loves doing things and could go off to do showing, dressage or eventing. He is a quick learner too, I was long-reining him yesterday and he will probably be off out riding next week.”

Bobby Dazzler is out of Catherston Georgia.

Also scoring an elite premium at Catherston was filly dressage foal, Suzie Seagry (Tolegro x Stedinger) with premium score of 9.05 for her owner and breeder, Keith Taylor of the Seagry Stud in Chippenham. Suzie Seagry’s dam, St Pr St Seagry Sanay also bred the elite Futurity scoring foal in 2015, Sammy Seagry.

Oceans Edge (Chilli Morning x Michaels Revenge) a colt foal out of the number one mare on the BEF Futurity mare rankings, Heligan took a higher first premium of 8.96 at Catherston for owner and breeder, Sue Barr. Two previous offspring of Heligan have achieved elite Futurity premiums, Pentire Chilli Edge scored 9.46 in 2013 and Oceans Boudicca took 9.15 in 2014.
