Much improved thanks to the use of the racecourse following its sad demise as a racetrack. The XC course seems to stand any amount of rain. Show Jumping can ride big and imposing in the main arena, and dressage is blustery leading to some early season excitements in the first phase!
Tweseldown is the first event of the event season for me as I live 15 minutes away and is a great chance for a catch up after winter. This combined with the Eventing aristocracy who attend due to the range of classes on offer lead to great excitement in the area. To arrive and park up next to these stars, our heroes sends the butterflies wild! The local talk leading up to the event is always will the ground hold up? This year made worse by the visit from the “beast from the east”! To even start the horse trials was a huge achievement from the Tweseldown team and the first two days were great but sadly the weekend was abandoned following rain on Friday night. I was lucky to have entered the BE100 on Thursday and living so close had early times so gaining decent going. My ISH obviously was happy with a 26 dressage and double clear to win!!
The team who put Tweseldown on are a fabulous bunch. Of course I’m biased because I know so many of them but it leads to a very jolly party atmosphere! I also had fun the following day going back to dressage write. That the weekend didn’t go ahead is understandable and an investment in the future as so many events take place through the year here. Before you know it we will back for another event with no clues Twesedown 1 even happened, the ground team work magic. Even though the site is contained there are so many options for Xc courses and each time the route will be different with fences constantly moved so the questions & challenges changed. There are also three different positions for show jumping courses so as to rotate and save ground. Really couldn’t recommend Tweseldown highly enough for a competitive visit and the schooling options which are available pretty much all year round!
