Colt jumping foal, Harry (Cash Point x Sydney), took an elite premium of 9.10 for owner and breeder Jill May from Dursley.
Harry was presented at the Futurity by Jill’s daughter, Laura May. Jill said:
“I was away in Belgium and left getting Harry to the Futurity to Laura. Harry is a quality foal, he has good breeding and is independent, yet sociable and loves other horses and humans.”
Jill bred Harry from her mare, Why Not who jumped up to foxhunter level with Mark Bunting and then sadly had a bad accident which prevents her from ridden work now.
Harry is the first foal bred from Why Not, Jill added:
“We will keep him at home and see how he grows on and develops for the meantime.”
Gillian Jones’ dressage colt foal, Stanbourne Finale (Franklin x Show Star) took an elite premium of 9.05 at Hartpury. Gillian said:
“I am delighted with Stanbourne Finale, we were hoping he would get an elite score. I think his mark could have been even higher had he shown his amazing trot off as well as he can do at the Futurity.”
Stanbourne Finale was bred from Gillian’s state premium mare, Sennerin. She competed to a high level in dressage in her native Germany and Gillian bought her to breed from. Gillian continued:
“I bought Sennerin 4 years ago when she was in foal to Don Gregory, the resulting foal, Don Finale, is now three and will go off to be competed by Charlie Sawyer.
“Stanbourne Finale was for sale, but since he gained his elite premium I have decided to keep him and we will produce him for high level dressage, hopefully through the equine bridge and world class schemes.”
Dressage filly foal, Holly Golightly (Heaven x Connery) bred and owned by Miriam Klein scored an elite premium of 9.00. Lynne Crowden said,
“Miriam has been a long-time customer and breeder at the Woodlander Stud. Holly Golightly has a great canter, Miriam is thrilled with this foal and her breeding. Her dam, Ciaroscura is from the motherline of the stallion Summertime Blues.”
Lindsey Roberts’ colt foal, Flores WD (Floriscount x Wolkentanz) also took an elite in the dressage section. Flores is by Floriscount and is the second foal bred from Lindsey’s mare, Wolke Sieben (known as Betty). Flores’ older brother, Finisterre WD also attained an elite Futurity premium as a foal last year.
Lindsey said:
“I am so thrilled that Flores got the elite. There seem to be less foals gaining elite premiums this year, so the pressure was on. Betty is back in foal to Floriscount for next year. It would be wonderful if we can make it three elite foals in a row and keep her 100% record!”
Dressage producer, Darren Mattia from Court Farm Stud in Herefordshire exhibited Flores at the Futurity. Lindsey added:
“Darren is fantastic with the horses.”
Flores will now go to the British Breeders Network Great British Mare and Foal Show on the 2nd of September at Addington Manor.
