Little Downham Horse Trials June 2016

14 Nations, a World Number 2, former World Number 1, 10 Olympic medals and more team appearances than they care to count.

The first Childeric Saddles Little Downham Horse Trials of 2016 gets underway at 8am on Friday 3rd June with the first of 3 days of top level and grassroots competition. 

The Little Downham Advanced and Intermediate track has fast become a very popular venue for the world’s best riders to head to with 2016 attracting over 50 Advanced and 130 Intermediate entries for the first day of competition. They look forward to welcoming the likes of former World Number 1, Andrew Nicholson, back to Ely, along with former Advanced winner here and Team GBR hopeful Izzy Taylor, current world number 2 Christopher Burton for Australia, Rolex Grand Slam winner Pippa Funnell and Swedish superstar Ludwig Svennerstal.

Alongside the elite riders will be a hundreds of grassroots competitors looking to challenge for the Protexin Equine Premium Grassroots Accumulator and a share of the £1,400 prize pot. The series is open to all BE90 and BE100 competitors (BE100 Plus and BE105 are excluded) and will allow for combinations to move between the levels.  Combinations will be awarded points for top 10 placings and the winners will be crowned at the final event of the year in October with the top 6 places receiving prize money – 1st – £600, 2nd – £400, 3rd – £200, 4th – £100, 5th and 6th -£50

 

All together 14 nations will be represented at Little Downham this weekend, with over 600 riders competing on more than 900 horses in a bid to take home one of the 27 first place prizes on offer.

Spectators are welcomed free of charge to the event and will benefit from the compact location and excellent viewing to watch these riders, many of them Olympic hopefuls, up close.

2016 will see three separate BE events at Ely Eventing Centre spanning 8 days of competition:

Friday 3rd June – Sunday 5th June – BE90 to Advanced

Saturday 23rd July – Sunday 24th July – BE80(T) to Novice

Saturday 1st October – Monday 3rd October – BE80(T) to Advanced inc the BE90 and BE100 Regional Finals.
