Kelsey was nominated for the award by Lead Coach for the Hereford & Worcester Academy, Hannah Jackson, who had the following to say about her nominee:

“Kelsey has been a dedicated and regular member of the Academy and she is always in attendance at training sessions. She is always making friends and always helps to support other riders. She was part of the Academy team at Weston Lawns where she jumped really well under pressure and she was a great team member and supported all the other riders in her team alongside some of the younger riders. Kelsey is really deserving of this award and I’m sure that she will have a fantastic 2017 with all of the hard work that she puts in!”

Beginning her riding career aged 5 at a local riding school, Kelsey soon became hooked. At just 13 years-old she had to make the transition from ponies to horses but it is clear to see from such a glowing report from the academy that Kelsey has come on in leaps and bounds since joining British Showjumping in late 2015. Kelsey is always enthusiastic to do more and improve which is really paying off with her consistency and her goal is now to gain her Newcomers double clears in Newcomers alongside competing in British Novice and Discovery Seconds Rounds next year.

Upon finding out she had become a NAF Shining Star, an elated Kelsey said:

“I am so pleased to get this award as I really love being part of the academy. My favourite thing is being a part of the academy teams where we support and inspire each other to do our best. I also love training and I try and make it to everything I can. Hannah is a great coach, she has persevered with me and my young horse and now we are seeing the improvement that makes it all worthwhile, so a big thank you has to go to her.”

Melissa Newman, NAF Brand Manager, added:

“Enthusiasm, dedication and being supportive are very important ingredients when it comes to doing well in sport. Kelsey has clearly demonstrated these core values and has trickled these values down to her team mates too which is very admirable. Jumping under pressure is never easy but Kelsey clearly takes it all in her stride. Good luck in achieving your goals in 2017 and congratulations on your Shining Star accolade!”

Kelsey will kindly receive some NAF equine products to use alongside the supplements that she currently uses, which include; Electro Salts through the summer competition season.

The NAF Shining Star Award was introduced when NAF became a British Showjumping Business Partner. The award is for members of a Junior Academy who have shown a great deal of commitment, progression and outstanding behaviour along with their riding ability and much more. Riders are nominated by their lead coach, and then judged and awarded by NAF to one person each month.
