His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is a committed environmentalist, who, recognising the plight sheep farmers were facing around the world in the face of plummeting wool prices convened experts from across the agricultural, wool textile and retail sectors to reverse the trend towards petro-chemical fibres.
His Royal Highness is the global patron of The Campaign for Wool and remains actively involved in spreading the message that wool is a precious natural, renewable and biodegradable resource that offers many technical and ecological benefits.
From 5th – 11th October, Wool Week will see over 100 retailers and many leading fashion, interior and craft brands from across the UK unite to highlight the innovative ways in which wool is used plus there are lots of ways you can participate in an exciting line-up of activities taking place across the country.
One of these initiatives is ‘Woolly Hat Day’, which takes place on Friday 9th October, and supports ‘The Mission to Seafarers’ charity that provides care for seafarers around the world. For the knitters amongst you, you can download new woolly hat patterns from Marie Wallin, Craft Revolution, Wool and the Gang and other leading knitwear designers here www.campaignforwool.org and simply text a donation.
