Effort was the key trend for this year’s Burghley, and while a few didn’t make our best-dressed list, it was super to see so much attention to detail and focus on presenting their horses with outfits to compliment.

WHY?
A beautiful crushed velvet jacket in green with military overtones was simple and classy. It just worked so well on Willa’s figure and with her hair in a no nonsense ponytail, it said classic without the frills.
STYLE LESSON TO LEARN
Take one ‘statement’ piece and let it speak volumes.

WHY?
It was a dress – yes a DRESS, not jeans and a jacket or even skirt and jacket.
STYLE LESSON TO LEARN
You can wear a dress, team it with pearls and designer loafers and still work it in the trot up style parade.

WHY?
You can pick muted colours and still stand out from the crowd.
STYLE LESSON TO LEARN
Picking out highlights of texture and colour (note feathers in the hat, detail on jacket collar, cuffs and pockets and contrast detail on boots) really does work.

WHY
A sharply tailored suit with a flash of colour in the lining and good shoes always work.
STYLE LESSON TO LEARN
A navy suit is an investment buy that you can always wear with style. Looks great on all complexions and is never seasonal. A true winner in every sense of the word.

WHY
A striking retro print blouse (on trend for autumn) teamed with skinny white jeans, and leather boots are understated and say fashion without trying too hard.
STYLE LESSON TO LEARN
Keep it simple and tie it together with a colour theme that runs throughout. Also, note how well this outfit compliments her horse’s white socks and white star.
