Recently home from an epic third win at the Rolex Kentucky 3 Day Event on Bay My Hero, and currently gearing up for Badminton with Cool Mountain and Parklane Hawk, William Fox-Pitt takes time out to share his Pro Secrets with us for our launch.
TGP: Firstly, many congratulations on your fantastic win at Kentucky. What or who inspires you within the equestrian world?
WFP: My parents in my early days. Most recently, Lucinda Green, Mark Todd and many others
TGP: Do you have a favourite equestrian possession?
WFP: My horse box, which is my home
TGP: Is there an all time favourite yard/stables that you’ve been too? And why?
WFP: Bramham Park Stables. I have great memories of stabling there in the 80’s for the 3 day event.
TGP: Which country in your opinion does equestrian best? And why?
WFP: We do! We have the history, countryside and weather for horses
TGP: Do you have an equestrian hero?
WFP: Lucinda Green
TGP: What is the quality that you most like in a horse?
WFP: Willingness
TGP: If you weren’t a 3-day eventer, what would you be doing?
WFP: Training racehorses
TGP: What is the most valuable piece of advice you have been given and who gave it to you?
WFP: Control your nerves and give the horse a chance to control his. My mother gave me this advice.
TGP: What would be your message to the equestrian world?
WFP: Enjoy your horse
TGP: Do you have a secret superstition before an event?
WFP: No! I have used them all up!
TGP: What are your top 5 indispensable pieces of kit, for you or your horse?
WFP: For me: my Albion saddle, Parlanti boots and Musto everything. For my horses, Equilibrium leg protection and Activomed therapy blanket
