30 Riders selected for Rider Development Pathway Camp

unnamed (2)

Following ten very successful Regional Assessment Days, where Pony Club Members worked with recognised and experienced coaches in their chosen discipline of either Show Jumping, Dressage or Eventing, 30 riders from all over the country have been selected to attend the Rider Development Pathway (RDP) Camp.

The RDP, supported by the Sport England funded BEF Excel Talent Programme, is designed to aid the development of Pony Club Members who show the ability to progress in their sport and provides a stepping stone for those working towards the talent pathways of the Olympic disciplines, the British Equestrian Federation’s Sport England funded Excel Talent Programme and the UK Sport Funded World Class Programme.

The 2015 RDP Camp will be held during July 4-5th at Somerford Park EC and the selected riders will receive top class coaching in their chosen discipline of Dressage, Show Jumping or Eventing throughout the weekend.

When I found out that I had been selected for this incredible opportunity, I rushed outside and threw my arms around my horse shouting ‘Good boy’ – he must have thought I was mad but I was just so excited” trilled Talullah Bartlett from the Blackmore and Sparkford Vale Branch.

Beth Symington, from the Oakley Hunt West Branch, was equally pleased to have been selected commenting “I wish I could bottle this feeling! It’s amazing getting through such a tough selection process and to be invited to the RDP Camp at Somerford Park. I am really looking forward to receiving top class training from some of the UK’s best coaches and I hope to come away from the camp with a training plan that I can put into place, and continue to improve both myself and my horse.”

I would just like to say thank you for this amazing opportunity, it is a huge privilege to be selected for the Rider Development Pathway” said Annabel Hill from the East Devon Hunt Branch. “The instruction I received at the assessment day was hugely beneficial and I am looking forward to improving my riding further at the RDP Camp”.

Those attending the camp will receive expert discipline specific coaching from Harry Payne, Philippa Curry and Gary Parsonage, who will be joined by other industry experts, to work holistically on all aspects of the riders’ performance.  At the end of the camp a final six riders will be selected to be part of The Pony Club Rider Development Squad, who will receive further individual support and guidance for future development and training opportunities.
