BADMINTON: Piggy French clinches victory in dramatic finale

What an incredible end to the most magical of Badmintons. Piggy French has today won her first 5* title on the talented mare Vanir Kamira at the last Mitsubishi Motors sponsored Badminton Horse Trials.

Piggy won in breathtaking style having achieved a stunning clear in the showjumping phase to finish on 26.8, adding only 0.8 to her dressage score.

It seemed Oliver Townend had it in the bag. Having knocked the one rail he had in hand, we all assumed he had clinched back to back 5* wins following on from his win at Kentucky last Sunday. However, it was not to be as he added just 0.3 to his score for time penalties.

Huge congratulations to Piggy and all the team at Maidwell Lodge Farm. This really sums up how we are all feeling right now!

We have had the most incredible 5 days and look forward to sharing more galleries with you soon. Thank you to the Badminton press team for running such an excellent operation and to you, our lovely readers and followers, for all the likes, shares, comments and retweets across our digital platform, be it over on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Final thanks to William Carey for capturing all the action so beautifully as it unfolded. Roll on 2020!
