British Eventing are again spearheading research in to safety development and research in the cross country phase of the sport, this year with the launch of the inaugural ‘BE Safety Innovation Prize’.

The Prize has been launched to engage those in the sport as well as supporters, fans, sponsors and the general public, to explore ways in which to potentially further reduce the risk in the sport.

A substantial prize of £25k will be on offer to the winner.

As part of the 2014 – 2016 British Eventing Risk Management Strategy, the organisation set the aim of continually and actively investigating new safety mechanisms as well as finding support and funding for potential and existing research.

Mike Etherington-Smith, BE Chief Executive commented “British Eventing sees safety and welfare of horse and rider as the number one priority and has led in the area of risk management for many years.

“We are all committed to finding additional ways of minimising risk and we hope that this Safety Innovation Prize will spark a lot of interest inside and outside the sport and be the catalyst for some new ideas.”

The full terms, conditions and rules for the BE Innovation Prize will be announced on 1st June 2015.
