Burghley ’19 | Dressage Day One | Debutante leads overnight

The rain held off on what was to be an incredible first day of competition at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, which saw first timer and local rider Eliza Stoddart and Priorspark Opposition Free top the leaderboard with last year’s winner, Tim Price and Bango, tie for second with Sarah Bullimore and Reve du Rouet. 

Stoddart scored an amazing 28.7 with a score of three 10’s from the judges.  Listen (below) to what a very happy Eliza had to say about her debut Burghley 5* test.

Sarah Bullimore

Local rider Sarah Bullimore finished joint second after day 1 of the dressage test on her horse Reve du Rouet with a score of 29.6.

Tim Price

Tim completed his first test on Bango scoring 29.6 placing joint second. He was last to go with his second horse Xavier Faer and scored 31.5 leaving the New Zealander with two horses in the top ten on the leaderboard. 

Ben Hobday

Ben completed his test on the striking Harelaw Wizard with a score of 32.1. A firm 5* favourite, Ben got the crowd behind him as the scores were announced.
