League updates ahead of International line up at Houghton

This weekend’s Houghton International Horse Trials hosts both CCI2* competition as well as the Nations Cup CICO3* class, both of which count towards two special British Eventing Leagues: the Fairfax Britannia League and the Future Two Star League. Here are the current leaders of the Leagues ahead of this weekend’s full line up of competition.

Fairfax Britannia League
GB Nations Cup squad regular Nicky Roncoroni currently leads the Fairfax Saddles sponsored Britannia League ahead of this weekend’s Houghton International with Janey Barclay Roncoroni’s 11 year old grey Irish gelding Stonedge. This pairing head the League on 49 points after achieving third place and a team win in the Irish leg of the Nations Cup at Ballindenisk (Ireland, 24-26 April).

The Fairfax Britannia League recognises British riders and their horses as combinations using the BE points system. Points are accrued at CIC and CCI three star level events in the UK as well as at FEI Nations Cup fixtures. The League is dedicated to riders who haven’t registered a result under the British flag at Senior Championship level at FEI European Championships, World Equestrian Games or in Olympic Games.

The next competition on the Britannia League fixture list is the Bramham International in Yorkshire (11th – 14th June).

Future Two Star League
Cooley Earl owned by Diana Morrish and ridden by Georgie Strang currently heads the Future Two Star League on 24 points. Georgie and the eight year old Irish-bred bay gelding by Ramiro B have had a successful two star run of form so far this season posting top ten finishes at both Ballindenisk (CCI2*) and Somerley Park International (CIC2*).

To be eligible for the Future Talent Two Star League, qualifying horses must be nine years old or younger and must be ridden by a British rider. The horse must also never have competed at three or four star level, and only points won at two star competitions (both CCI and CIC) will be included. In addition to the two star competitions at Houghton, Tattersalls International in Ireland this weekend also boasts very competitive fields of competitors at this level.
