Jane Rogers (52) from Somerset has qualified for the BE100 Mitsubishi Motors Cup on her 10 year old home bred palomino Welsh cob/ thoroughbred, Corrieview Merlin Magic. Jane has ridden since a child competing at Pony Club and Riding Club as well as British Eventing and British Showjumping for years. Once her children started competing more seriously, Jane decided to take a seven year break from competition herself, in order to support them, even giving her good horse to her son, Tim.
“Once my children left home; Tim is a professional event rider based with Harry Meade, I found myself with a couple of home bred horses to sell. I sold one but the other one (Magic) hadn’t sold so I started to ride him. Tim and my sister in law suggested I started competing him, so I held on to the neck strap and had a go!” commented Jane.
They went on to win the Riding Club Championships that year and have developed into a great partnership.
“I am doing it for fun this time and really enjoying competing again.”
Jane and Magic are really looking forward to competing at Badminton in the BE100 Mitsubishi Motors Cup next week.
Do you have a secret superstition before a competition?
I have a lucky pair of socks I like to wear for competitions.
What do you never leave home without?
My Horse! I can occasionally leave things behind when I am off competing and I have to get husband to meet me at the end of lane!
Which is your favourite discipline?
Probably cross country although I enjoy dressage on Magic as he has been very good.
Who inspires you?
My mother inspires me the most, she has a go at anything and if she decides to do something she does it.
