Quest to find new best friend for ex-racehorse Obi

World Horse Welfare in quest to find new best friend for former racehorse Obi. Whilst he may not actually be as skilled with a lightsaber as his namesake, World Horse Welfare Obi, is very much full of the force and is looking for a home where he can enjoy a quiet life and be a loyal best friend to both human and equine companions.

Obi is a 16.3hh, seven year old thoroughbred who has just joined World Horse Welfare’s rehoming scheme at the charity’s Hall Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Snetterton, Norfolk and is feeling very sad since his best friend, Freddie (sometimes known as Luke Skywalker) left to travel to his new home in the last few weeks.

Obi came to World Horse Welfare as part of a scheme with charity, Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) to help vulnerable formerly raced thoroughbreds through their rehabilitation and rehoming. Obi was signed over to World Horse Welfare after his owner became unable to look after him anymore and he was not receiving the love and care he needed. Obi’s dedicated groom, Emma Sawyers, leads on the RoR scheme at World Horse Welfare Hall Farm. She said:

“Obi is a lovely horse with the sweetest temperament. He loves company and enjoys nothing more than a cuddle, plus lots of affection! He is very well mannered when handled and can be sensitive so would suit a quiet home where he can relax and enjoy being loved and cared for. Obi has had a difficult start to life and deserves nothing more than to find his forever home.”

Obi cannot be ridden due to intermittent lameness problems which occurred when he was in work. Obi has been fully checked by the vet, farrier and physio to ensure he is fully comfortable and pain-free enjoying a slower pace of life as a companion. He is very sociable and will enjoy going out and about in-hand. He gets on well with horses and ponies of all ages.
