Ross Barr meets HM The Queen at Prince’s Trust Centre

The fashion bunnies amongst you may remember we introduced Prince’s Trust beneficiary Ross Barr and his gorgeous Spencer cardigan to the equestrian scene last year. We are delighted to report that Ross met HM The Queen this week at a Prince’s Trust event.

Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales visited The Prince’s Trust Centre in Kennington on 8th March to meet young people whose lives have been changed by the youth charity as it celebrates its 40th anniversary.

Founded by The Prince of Wales in 1976, The Prince’s Trust has supported 825,000 vulnerable and disadvantaged young people to overcome their challenges and move into education or work.

The Queen and The Prince heard from young people whose lives have been turned around through The Trust’s programmes, which are designed to equip young people with the skills, tools and confidence needed to move into work, education or training.

Speaking about his own experience, Ross said “I am so honoured to say I have been helped by The Prince’s Trust, because this is exactly what they do so well and I will be forever in their debt for allowing myself the chance I have now been given.’

Rising Stars

Among those gathered today were individuals who had been helped over the course of The Trust’s 40-year history. They included Elizabeth Galton, who received a bursary from The Prince’s Trust and has since risen to become Creative Director at jewellers Mappin and Webb, Trust-supported entrepreneur Marc Wileman, creator of Sublime Science, and David Robinson, former Chief Operating Officer at Argos, now Managing Director at Conviviality Retail.

The Queen and The Prince also saw the work of The Trust’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiatives. They met a group of young people working in the centre’s Digital Classroom, whichaims to improve young people’s exposure to the latest digital technology, helping them to advance in school and also in the future job market.

At the conclusion of the visit, The Queen and The Prince of Wales cut a celebratory cake – baked by Prince’s Trust supported baker La’Tifah Atkinson-Campbell – to mark the 40th anniversary of The Prince’s Trust.

Martina Milburn, Chief Executive at The Prince’s Trust, said: “For 40 years The Prince’s Trust has been working to support young people because we believe that everyone deserves a chance. The Prince of Wales has worked tirelessly during that time to make a real difference to young people. It was a privilege to show Her Majesty some of this work.”
