Talented young equestrians head for the Pony Club Championships

The Pony Club Championships, kindly supported by Weatherbys Private Banking, will take place on August 21st- 25th at Cholmondeley Castle, The Pony Club ChampionshipsCheshire by kind permission of The Marquess of Cholmondeley; the organisation of the event is a joint collaboration between The Pony Club and Musketeer Event Management (MEM) headed by Alec Lochore.

The Weatherbys Private Banking Championships will welcome talented young equestrians across the three Olympic disciplines of Show Jumping, Dressage and Eventing as well as Mounted Games, Endurance and Polocrosse and incorporating the competitions for Centre Equitation, Musical Ride, and Horse and Pony Care.

This year’s event will also see the inclusion of competitors at the more grassroots Novice level for Dressage, Show Jumping and Eventing, alongside Intermediate and Open, taking competitor numbers well over the 2000 mark across five days of action!

The popular Mentoring scheme, supported by NFU Mutual, will again be available throughout the Championships, with experienced Mentors on hand to offer a wealth of advice backed up with resources to help competitors perform at their best, in the electric championship atmosphere; a further addition to aid competitors is an area dedicated to rider well being, including sports massage and expert advice on nutrition for improved performance.

Competitors will also find more social provision on offer, with a designated entertainment area offering the chance to gather and meet Pony Club Members from across the country, share experiences and take part in some amazing activities such as laser clays, Segway polo and digger skittles!

Shortlisted submissions for The John King Young Artist Award, in association with the Society of Equestrian Artists (SEA), will be on display ahead of their final judging by representatives from the SEA. The competition, previously known as The Pony Club Art Competition, has been renamed in memory of the equestrian artist John King and will also see SEA representatives in attendance to give artwork demonstrations and advice.

The Championships could not run without the substantial manpower of around 400 volunteers across the five days of competition, and volunteers at this year’s Championship’s will be receiving a goody bag, courtesy of title sponsor Weatherbys Private Banking, to say an extra special thank you for their vital support!

Fiona Lace, Championship Director comments “We have listened to feedback and have been able to implement some really exciting additions to The Weatherbys Private Banking Championships for 2015, which we hope competitors, spectators and most importantly our volunteers will feel the benefit from”.

The action kicks off on Friday August 21st with a mix of action available daily; spectators are very welcome to attend the event free of charge.
