The Perfect Picnic (straight from the supermarket)

Let’s face it, unless you’re a) super organised b) already painted your nails or c) pre-ordered a Fortnum’s hamper, the morning of Royal Ascot is often fraught and the last thing you want to be doing is concocting your Coronation Chicken whilst searching for extra kirby grips for your hat or hubby’s braces!

A quick trolley dash round your local supermarket will have you sorted in no time. At every picnic we have ever been to at Ascot, there has always been way too much food and who really wants warm quails eggs at the expense of some easy pickings that do the job.

So if you are asked to contribute to the picnic this year, you can do no wrong from grabbing some of our selection below. Keep it simple, make sure you stick to a theme, bread and cheese, olives and crisps, hams and quiches or scones and jam so that they compliment each other. The only other tip we can give you is to take a bottle of something suitably celebratory – treat your hosts to a bottle of our favourite tipple, Pol Roger Brut Réserve NV.
