The Spectator Edit: What to Wear

Anticipation is at fever pitch with the onset of the new eventing season literally just 3 sleeps away!

We hope you’ve wintered well and as the finishing touches are put to the courses and the hard working organisers madly check the weather forecast every hour, we’ve curated a look to ensure you loyal spectators remain warm, dry and on trend. So whether you are on site for an early bird breakfast, pit stopping with fence judges or taking cover in the members area, this is for you.

1. It’s time to be brave, ditch the tweed and invest in the Horseware H20 Poncho for a modern look. It is made from completely waterproof and breathable fabric complete with taped seams and has been designed with a convenient front zip pocket that is a tardis! We managed to store our phone, battery pack and compact camera in there as well as a small wallet so say goodbye to handbag dilemmas! It also acts as a travel rug when you want to have a sit down by your fave fence so no soggy bottoms and it’s hood properly stays up! £79

2. With enormous choice for bobble hats out there at the moment, we instantly fell in love with this BKLYN merino wool hat with grey/lime pom pom in charcoal that gives a flash of colour and looks great too. £50

3. We are big fans of the Back on Track collection and this polo neck doesn’t disappoint. Made from unique Welltex™ ceramic infused material, it reflects the wearer’s body heat as FAR Infrared energy and is super cosy. £46.50

4. Rub shoulders with the great and the good in the Horse Trials Support Group tent, which boasts the best loos at any event and has all the kit and kaboodle to ease the wind swept look including a hairdryer. Single membership £225

5. Go big on comfort and style with these stretch Levi’s Line 8 High Rise Skinny Jeans in carbon. A great fit that also has the perfect back pocket for easy access to your phone for that speedy selfie with your hero. £65

6. Unless you’ve managed to get your paws on the much coveted Champagne Pol Roger umbrella (believe us when we say we’ve tried..it’s impossible!) then you can do no wrong in settling for the equally stylish lightweight double-canopy Walker umbrella from Banvard & James in gorgeous colours. £75

7. Layers! It’s all about the layers! A firm favourite of ours for outdoors attire is Uniqlo’s Ultra Light Down Bomber, which come in several colour ways and is light enough to tie round your waist once you’ve got half way round your course walk. £39.90

8. Fresh and different, stand out from the crowd with Rockfish’s Tall Gloss Wellies. Not only do they boast a shock absorbing foam insole & foot bed but they are resistant to horse urine so don’t save them just for outings. £79.99

9. What’s not to like about North Face’s Etip gloves? They are slim enough to not be over bulky, warm enough for being out all day, smart enough to be seen in and tech friendly with their touchscreen functionality ensuring you get all your instagram shots without risking frostbite. £25.40

10. One of our hero brands for style and substance, WSYE’s cashmere collection gets stronger and stronger each season and we instantly swooned when we discovered the Colette Rainbow Bomber, which can be paired with anything for a seriously cool look. £185

Have a great season everyone – Good luck to all competitors, owners, grooms, support teams and organisers. See you very soon!
