The Winning (Style) Post

When it comes to dressing for the races with style, equestrian and country fashion PR & digital agency MirrorMePR certainly have a few tips up their stylish sleeves for a winning look at Ascot. In this exclusive feature, the team share they do’s and their ‘certainly not’ for racing style ahead of Ascot.

Stick to the rules

Firstly check what you can and can’t wear. The Royal Enclosure dress code will be much stricter than that of the Grand Stand, so make sure you are suitably dressed. If you are not sure on your choice of outfit, then don’t wear it. Your ultimate style rule for Ascot should always be to keep it elegant and wearable and worn with confidence. If you are worrying about walking in heels or falling out of your dress then you won’t be able to concentrate on having fun.

When we say wearable we mean comfortable and no you don’t have to compromise too much. Choosing the right footwear is key, and if you are not a pro at wearing heels for hours on end (coupled with the champagne) then we would suggest going for a smaller heel, or court shoe is the way to remain upright for the full day. A super tight dress and full blown supportive underwear is a combination that is again perfect for a few hours at a cocktail party but if you are planning a full day at the races, wear clothing and underwear that is comfortable as well as stylish.

Our Bets Are On This Newcomer

We love a dress with detail and pattern, and this pretty little lace number from Karen Millen in a flattering neutral shade is one that will take you to the races and see you through the wedding guest season too. The sleeves are scalloped to flatter arms, and the length is perfect for all ages. If you’re buying a dress especially for Ascot, think about versatility, so you get maximum wear out of it after Ascot.

Team with nude or metallic heels – we love these Rose Gold Metallic mid-heels from Dune, and you’ll be able to wear this all summer long. If you are not a big fan of showing off your toes, then these are the perfect summer shoe for dressing up your feet without looking ‘bulky’ when teamed with lightweight summer dresses.

These beauties from Net-a-porter have a cushioned sole and elegant ankle buckle for simple, timeless elegance that will go from day to night with ease and perfect for some holiday glamour.

And at even mid-heels height, if you fail to stand the test of time and a full day in heels then pop these clever fold up ballet shoes in Rose gold from Dune in your bag for the ultimate cheat.

Hat wise, we love this piece from Lizzie’s Hats – simple and stunning! The beading adds a subtle touch of sparkle while the lines of the feminine bow complement this feminine feel of the dress.

With a dress this pretty, you need a cover-up to match so we would say this gorgeous mohair scarf from Etsy does the job perfectly is lightweight enough to slip off and carry if the sun comes out! Again think about the practicalities of wearing or carrying your over garment throughout the day. Lightweight is more!

We would all love to carry this season’s top trend, the micro bag but the fact is that we just end up carrying around too much ‘stuff’ so the perfect compromise is this gorgeous bag from Aspinal of London. Compact but with space for everything but the kitchen sink. This bag will work with a floaty dress or tailored suit for smart.

Have fun and stay stylish!
