Pretty chestnut cob Dolly has been charming generations of supporters at Redwings Ada Cole near Harlow since 1998 and is one of the longest serving members of the charity’s popular Adoption Scheme.
When she was just three-years-old, poor Dolly fell into a ditch where she was stuck for three days before being rescued. In her frantic attempts to free herself, Dolly sustained injuries requiring urgent veterinary care, but her owner was unable to pay for the treatment. The vet approached Redwings Ada Cole for help and thanks to the charity’s intervention, Dolly received the treatment she needed and a secure home for the rest of her life.
Roll forward almost 20 years and despite being Redwings Ada Cole’s eldest ‘Adoption Star’, Dolly still enjoys a full and happy life at the visitor centre… and continues to win the hearts of two and four-legged admirers alike!
It’s hoped Dolly’s fans – old and new – will join her for a special birthday party at Redwings Ada Cole, near Harlow, on Sunday 11th June, starting at 11.30am.
On the big day, visitors will have the chance to enjoy cuddles with Dolly, join in a quiz trail and party games, and watch her tuck into her very own birthday cake!
Supporters can sponsor Dolly for £12.50 a year, with funds going towards her daily care and that of her friends. Anyone who sponsors one of Redwings’ 24 Adoption Stars can visit them for free at the centre where they live and receive updates on their four-legged friend’s progress. They’re even invited to celebrate their Adoption Star’s birthday with a party every year – just like Dolly’s.

“With her outgoing and friendly nature, it’s hard to believe Dolly endured such a terrifying incident early on in her life. Despite her advancing years, she remains as cheeky and charming as ever and I’m sure she can’t wait to party with her fans when she turns 22 this summer. We hope as many people as possible will be able to come along and join in!”
