Chestertons Polo in the Park Day 3 Round Up

Chestertons Polo in the Park came to a close today with another sunny day. Thousands of happy kids and three fast and furious final polo matches finished off another brilliant weekend.

The day started with the most anticipated part of the weekend… the Sharky & George Pitch Invasion! The field was taken over by bubbles, giant bouncy castles, games and space hoppers which ensured each and every child had the time of their lives. The favourite game of the day had to be the water balloon catapult: a great way to cool down in the London sunshine for the kids at the event to kick off their summer.

Following the children’s fun on the pitch it was time for the first match of the day as the home side No.1 Rosemary Water Team London went mallet to mallet with Experience Kissimmee Team Kissimmee. Both sides showed great defence throughout the game; however, it was the home team that narrowly missed out. It all came down to the last chukka with No1 Rosemary Water Team London falling behind, leaving it a battle for their defence to hold off the strong Kissimmee attack. George Meyrick scored a crucial goal in the last few minutes of the match but sadly it wasn’t enough for the home team with the game finishing 9-8 to Experience Kissimmee Team Kissimmee.

Next up was the bronze medal match and it was time for Whitley Neill Team Cape Town to take on Argentex Team Dubai. As the claxon sounded the teams set off on the suicide start as they raced to the middle of the pitch for the first hit of the ball. It was a great start from Dubai with Chris Hyde, who holds one of the highest ratings on the field this weekend, unsurprisingly standing out following his 10 goals in the tournament. Hyde’s strong performance ensured Argentex Team Dubai had the upper hand and the game ended 9-5 to a victorious team Dubai.

Lastly it was the final match between Air Europa Team Buenos Aires and EFG Team Zurich. Air Europa Team Buenos Aires kicked off the match with an extremely strong start with Marcus Araya dominating the field. Marcus scored an impressive two pointer in the second chukka to make it 3-0 to Air Europa Team Buenos Aires. However, Gregory Touret came out fighting and managed to salvage two points going into the third chukka. The crowd were loving the final action and it seemed Air Europa Team Buenos Aires were too hot to handle for EFG Team Zurich and the final result ended as 6-3 to Air Europa Team Buenos Aires meaning they were crowned the champions of this year’s Chestertons Polo in the Park. Congratulations to patron James McCarthy who led the team to the win and ensured they celebrated in style as they lifted the trophy.
