Many of the biggest names in the sport have thrown their caps in to the ring for Belton International Tri-Star Horse Trials, among them successful Olympic and World Games athletes.

One hundred horses will contest the Lycetts Grantham Cup. Mark Todd OBE has entered his London 2012 12th placed ride NZB Campino alongside his 7th placed Rio 2016 partner Leonidis. These two horses also have four top 10 Badminton and Burghley finishes between them.

Eighth at the London Olympics and 11th at the World Equestrian Games two years later, Zara Phillips brings High Kingdom, while Ireland’s Rio success story, TGP’s very own Eventing columnist, Jonty Evans and Cooley Rorkes Drift, who placed 9th in South America, are also Belton bound.

The ones to watch are Andrew Nicholson who brings his precociously talented Swallow Springs. Andrew is on record as saying the horse is one for the big time, admitting:

“He’s too cute for his own good and can do it all easily – almost too easily.”

In the Advanced class the pair to watch must be local rider and our lovely blogger, Willa Newton with Caja 20. The pair won the British Eventing 7 Year Old championships at Osberton in 2015, following that up with victory in the Blenheim Palace 8/9 Year Old Championships last autumn.

An action packed day out

Now in its 37th year, Belton International has developed a well deserved reputation for fabulous shopping with over 90 trade stands lining up to tempt visitors to reach for their wallets. With a wide array of food and drink trade stands, all the family can be catered for, whatever their whim on the day.

For those who enjoy a bit of mechanical horse power the impressive array of vehicles that come along to the Classic Car show offers an interesting way to while away a few hours talking classic lines, colour schemes and carburettors. And, hugely popular last year, the Interactive Zone returns. Set in the main shopping village visitors can meet the South Notts hounds and the Pakefield ferrets – or try their hand at willow weaving and face painting.

For our canine friends there is ‘Have A Go’ dog agility. Not only will Agility Antics be putting on impressive displays with their dogs, but spectators can test their and their own dog’s skills – which inevitably entertains the rest of the family. In addition, Jerry Green Dog Rescue will again be hosting the dog show, another opportunity for your dog to shine.

So there you have it – three days of adrenalin-packed sport, family activities for every age, delicious food and great shopping! And you can be there with these fabulous prizes.

First up is a fabulous prize for two Members passes, including entry and forward parking. New for 2017, Belton’s dedicated Members’ Area is the perfect place to pitstop, take a load off from walking the cross country course or shopping and come and sit in the arena side members marquee, there will be complementary tea and coffee, ‘posh’ toilet facilities and forward parking.

Second prize is for 5 tickets – one full car load – for the day of your choice so sort out your diary and tell your friends. Full a breakdown of what is happening each day, click here
