Spiralling running costs and a slump in external funding have led to an urgent plea for £100,000 by family favourite, Gorgie City Farm in Edinburgh. Hopetoun International Horse Trials (17th – 19th June 2016) have offered their support of the campaign by pledging to donate £10 to the cause for each ticket sold using the exclusive “Gorgie discount code” (found on site at Gorgie City Farm). The code offers large discounts on tickets to Hopetoun as well as supporting the campaign to keep Gorgie open.
The farm has been running for more than 38 years but financial struggles in recent months led to the closure of its cafe in January and could lead to the closure of the Farm for good. It desperately needs to raise a major sum to secure its future.
Stuart Buntine, Event Director at Hopetoun International Horse Trials said:
“We’re so pleased to be supporting such a long-standing institution and to be helping the local community to keep this much-loved farm open.”
One of Gorgie’s longest-serving volunteers said the farm’s work is vitally important:
“I have been helping at Gorgie for almost 20 years and I think of the animals as my own pets, they have even helped me cope with my depression. It would be terrible to lose it.”
