Joseph Trunkfield & Domino VII – Quainton Stud

Fifty-one starters came forward for Sunday’s Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Second Round at Quainton Stud in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire and it was Joseph Trunkfield and Domino VII who jumped their way to the top of the leaderboard.

With treble clears at the forefront of each competitor’s mind, the standard of jumping was such that fifteen of them were produced during this second round, subsequently giving each of those combinations a place in the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Championship Final, which will be held at the British Showjumping National Championships.

In a twenty-three horse jump off, 19 year-old Joseph Trunkfield from Staffordshire produced the fastest of the fifteen treble clears with Domino VII, a 6 year-old bay roan gelding owned by Euro Sport Horse. Joseph and Domino jumped towards the latter stages of the jump off and they used this draw to their advantage. With twelve treble clears having already been produced by previous competitors, Joseph and Domino needed to secure a quick treble clear to be in with the chance of taking home the top prize. Their clean and clear third round, produced in 36.98 seconds, proved to be more than fast enough whilst ensuring that they could not be caught.

Commenting on his result, Joseph said “This class proved to be really successful for Euro Sport Horse as we ended up with three horses inside the top five, all with treble clears, which was a great result as they are all youngsters. I have had the ride on Domino for about six months now and today was great experience for him. I knew that I could push him on a bit in jump off and he delivered for me, I’m really pleased with him.”

Emma Ashworth, aged 24, from Bicester, Oxfordshire took second on her mother Nicol Browne’s 6 year-old bay gelding Viva Delarosa. This combination produced a solid and confident round to finish on a treble clear in 42.23 seconds.

Third place was filled by 55 year-old Mennell Watson on board Triple Twist, a 5 year-old bay mare owned by Euro Sport Horse. They also went on to produce an immaculate treble clear, doing so in 43.23 seconds.

A total of fifteen combinations from this second round will now go forward to the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Championship Final.
