New Dressage Championships with a touch of Spanish sizzle

bapshlogoBritish Dressage (BD) announced a new partnership with the British Association of Purebred Spanish Horses (BAPSH) which will bring riders of resplendent PRE (Pura Raza Española) horses the chance to qualify for a prestigious championship final later in the year.

Open to existing or new members of BD, the championship, supported by Eastelms International Horse Transport, is for any pure or part-bred horse registered with BAPSH and runs from prelim to medium level.  In order to qualify for the championship, eligible combinations need to achieve two scores at 60% or above in regular BD or Team Quest competitions at the level they wish to qualify for, from 01 January 2015 until 30 September 2015.  Once riders have achieved their two scores, they need to log with BD that they’ve qualified – and once validated, they’ll receive an invitation to the final; the date and venue will be confirmed very soon.

Riders must be minimum Associate registered with BD and members of BAPSH (and owners).  Horses must also be Associate registered with BD and fully registered with BAPSH.  Associate BD registration for horse and rider enables them to compete in prelim level but for any levels above, class tickets are required.  BD will provide two free class tickets for anyone who’s not a full member who’d like to try and qualify.  For the final, riders must be a minimum BD Team Quest Club member (cost £20) on an associate horse.  Combinations can compete and qualify at different levels but can only compete in two classes at the final.

Linda Harper, Director at BAPSH commented; “The British Association of Purebred Spanish Horses is delighted that British Dressage has given us this opportunity for our members and the chance to showcase this talented and majestic breed.”

“This is a great addition to British Dressage and it will be great to see more PRE horses involved in our sport in Britain,” added British Dressage CEO Jason Brautigam. “BD members will fondly recall watching Fuego, ridden by Juan Munoz Diaz, at the 2012 London Olympics and being struck by his flair and presence, so it’ll be fantastic to see more Spanish horses competing on British soil.  We welcome BAPSH members to dressage and are looking forward to them competing and qualifying for this exciting new initiative.”

Karen Beaumont is the in-house BD co-ordinator for the Championships for qualification queries, free class tickets and any questions.  Contact her on 02476 698909 or email karen.beaumont@britishdressage.co.uk.  The venue and date for the final will be announced shortly but it promises to be an event with a fiesta feel!
