Capture the moments!
Make sure you take loads of pictures, I promise you that you’ll never ever tire of looking at them. I was lucky enough to win my own photographer (thanks to e_Venting) for the event, which produced the most incredible memories, but I also love all the behind the scenes shots we got just as much. A blog is another great memento…even if it’s just for you, this is something (hopefully!) you really want to remember.
Remember why you are there
Yes it’s very easy to get caught up in the competition, and I’ll readily admit it was intimidating seeing seasoned grassroots competitors everywhere with their fancy lorries adorned with red rosettes, on horses incapable of scoring above 30 in the dressage and are allergic to knocking poles down. Try and focus on why you are there and control what you can control. Myself and Tally had both had an awful injury plagued 2014 season, so I vowed just to enjoy my 2015 eventing.
So what if 2 poles fell down when we usually jump clear…the wings had to be nailed into the floor it was that windy! He tried his very hardest to do dressage in apocalyptic weather conditions when he was well within his rights to completely down tools; and when the spectators and atmosphere were totally blowing his mind XC he kept on jumping, clear over all the direct routes.
